The Welland Club used to be located on the banks of the canal by Merritt Park. It's depicted in the early 1900s, with a Union Jack flag and lawn bowlers in the foreground. John Hood was inspired by a photocopy of an old picture which gave it a blurry and peculiar quality. Painted in 1990 by Mike Svob of Coquitlam, BC, at 871 Niagara Street (formerly Family Robbins Restaurant), 48' X 10'. It shows three aspects of the local dairy industry. The first scene shows a Mr. Beckon peddling bulk milk from his horse-drawn wagon between 1910-1920. The second shows a school tour of the Elmview milk bottling plant around 1960. The last shows one of the last horse-drawn milks wagons from the early 1960s. Three scenes are featured of the Welland Fair. The first shows livestock winners posing in 1940. In the centre shows a 1958 midway scene. Both were in the Denistoun location. The last image shows the fair at the new location on Niagara Street, with a livestock judge examining sheep. This mural features three images: a street car scene, a conductor and four horses racing to the finish line in a race at the Welland Fair, around 1920. The artist said that the Welland County Fair was a long-time highlight in the Niagara Peninsula, and fair-goers would come from far and wide to attend the annual event, many riding on the inter-urban railway that ran alongside the fairgrounds. The mural portrays the Townline Tunnel and concentrates on forms of transportation. With the engineering accomplishment of the tunnel, travel is uninterrupted and Welland residents were now able to save time. The mural is no longer located at 147 East Main Street, and its current location or circumstance is undetermined. Painted in 1990 by Risto Turunen of Lambeth, ON, at 57 Division Street (formerly Columbus Hall), 16' X 16'. The image of four men on horseback is based on a photo of the "Welland Canal Force" of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment guarding the Welland Canal. The soldier on the left is based on a photo of a local Welland soldier. The lower left corner is based on the image of a group of women in front of a streetcar promoting the patriotic fund drive. The soldiers looking out the windows are among the troops departing from the Welland Junction train station. It was removed and relocated to the Welland Museum sometime before 2007.
