Description
Colour photograph of the mural "Welland Club" by John Hood, c. 1991.
Painted in 1988 by John Hood of Toronto, ON, at 17 Hellems Avenue, 50' X 30'.
The Welland Club used to be located on the banks of the canal by Merritt Park. It's depicted in the early 1900s, with a Union Jack flag and lawn bowlers in the foreground. John Hood was inspired by a photocopy of an old picture which gave it a blurry and peculiar quality.
Picture of mural and information from the book "A Festival of Canadian Art: Welland's Giant Outdoor Murals" by Jerry Gibb.
