Description

Colour photograph of the mural "Three Historical Scenes" by John Hood, c. 1991.

Painted in 1988 by John Hood of Toronto, ON, at 115 Division Street (formerly Welland Printing), 42' X 7'.

This mural is an example of a triptych: a painting that has one of more unifying themes, but is composed of three separate images. They show aspects of Welland's socio-economic fabric in the 1900-1910 time period. The first image shows the last spike being driven in the Welland Railway System that ran up King Street, around 1911. The second is of a band concert in Merritt Park. The third portrays the Welland Farmers' Market.

Picture of mural and information from the book "A Festival of Canadian Art: Welland's Giant Outdoor Murals" by Jerry Gibb.
