Description

Colour photograph of the mural "The Pond - New Year's Eve" by Ross Beard, c. 1991.

Painted in 1988 by Ross Beard of Welland, ON, at 188 East Main Street (former LCBO building), 34' X 10'.

Ross Beard's second mural shows the Welland Junction as it might have looked in winter around 1970. The water tower, station and cement blocks in the lift bridges were soon after gone. The upturned earth in the foreground signals construction of the Canal By-Pass and the end of an era.

The mural was removed at some point as the property owner did not want to keep or maintain it.

Picture of mural and information from the book "A Festival of Canadian Art: Welland's Giant Outdoor Murals" by Jerry Gibb.
