Text reads: Was born at Chippawa on November 24th, 1862, the son of James McKenzie, who established a furniture and undertaking business in Chippawa in 1853. Mr. McKenzie was educated in the public school and, on reaching manhood, succeeded his father in the business. He was elected a public school trustee in 1885, and served on the board for six years. He entered the municipal council in 1898. For the past four years he has been reeve of the village, in January last being returned for fifth time by acclamation. He performed the duties of assessor for nine years before entering the Council. Mr. McKenzie is a stalwart Conservative, and is at present President of the local Association and a member of the County Executive. An active member of the Church of England, he held the position of Warden for several years, and has been lay delegate for several years. He takes a prominent part in temperance work as a member of the Sons of Temperance and was very active in the recent Referendum campaign. Mr. McKenzie has always been an ardent and consistent Prohibitionist. In the fraternal societies Mr. McKenzie has always taken a deep interest. He is a member of the Chosen Friends, Oddfellows and the Masonic order. [show more]

Text reads: of Fenwick, was born in 1844, in the Township of Louth, the son of Henry Fry, a Pennsylvanian who came to this country early in the last century, and, when a boy of fourteen years, was called to defend the country of his adoption during the troublesome times of 1812. William H. Fry was educated in the Township of Louth, and for seventeen years taught school in the Township of Pelham. During the reeveship of Edward Morris he served two years as Deputy, and later was four years in the Reeve's chair. In religion he is a Presbyterian and in politics an uncompromising Liberal. The series ran between March 1904-June 1905. Text reads: Was born on December 2nd, 1848, on the farm in Thorold township, near Welland, on which he now resides. His father, John Gainer, was a son of Jacob Gainer, one of the first settlers in this part of the county, taking the homestead from the Crown. W. H. Gainer was educated at the common school and at Welland Grammar School. His municipal experience began in 1879, when he was elected a member of Thorold Township Council. For six years following 1881 he served as deputy-reeve, and in 1889 he attained the reeveship. At the beginning of the year he was elected by acclamation to represent District No. 5 in the County Council. Mr. Gainer has always taken an active interest in agricultural matters, having been president of Welland Farmers' Institute for two years. At present he holds the position of Secretary-Treasurer of the Institute, the duties of which he has capably discharged for several years. For the last few years Mr. Gainer has held the office of Secretary of the Welland County Agricultural Society, and it is largely due to his untiring efforts that the Society has met with the success it has had. Among stockmen Mr. Gainer is well known as a breeder of shorthorn cattle. In politics he has always been a staunch Conservative. [show more]

He has been president of the County Agricultural Society, a public school trustee, president of the Town Conservative Association, and treasurer County Conservative Association. He was educated in the public school and Victoria College, Cobourg. He later studied law in Belleville and was called to the bar in 1882. Since then he has been practising in Welland. His first public office was the deputy-reeveship of Welland, which he held one year. He was elected to the House of Commons as a Liberal in 1891, against the late Dr. John Ferguson, but was unseated. In 1894 he was elected to the Legislative Assembly, and re-elected in 1898. He resigned in 1900 to run for the House of Commons, which he won, and last week was re-elected by a large majority.
