Joshua F. Beam, Black Creek, was born in Bertie township on May 10, 1842. He was a son of Adam Beam, who took a prominent part in the war of 1812. He received his education in different institutions in Canada and the United States. He studied music for years and later was a vocal teacher, which profession he followed for several years. Afterwards he did an extensive lumber business in shipping timber from Georgian Bay and other ports to the U.S. He now has a creamery and is devoted to dairy farming on the old Willowdale homestead at the forks of Black Creek, near the Niagara river. He is a Justice of the Peace and a member of the executive of the Farmers' Association of Canada, having for years taken an active interest in this association and also in the good roads movement. He is progressive and energetic and has evolved many good ideas for the benefit of his fellow men.
