Text reads:

C. B. Bennett was born in Gainsboro, Nov. 27, 1835. He was educated at London and went into a store in that city at the age of 16 years. Later, while still a young man, he served in stores in Welland (then Merrittville), Allanburg, Smithville and Hamilton. Afterwards he settled in Port Robinson, where for a quarter of a century he carried on a general store. Mr. Bennett has been postmaster of Port Robinson since 1897, and was reeve of the Township of Thorold in 1891-2-3-4. He was elected Warden of the County of Welland in 1893, was County Commissioner is 1899, and in 1900 was appointed County Treasurer.
