Was born in Bertie township, March, 1837. He was educated in the common school, and after securing a first-class county certificate he taught school. Later he studied medicine at the University of the Green Mountains at Burlington, Vt. He graduated from Victoria College in 1863, and opened for practice in Welland. Since then he has, with the exception of eighteen months, been a practitioner of this town, and is one of the best known doctors in the county. He was local superintendent of schools for Welland for several years before county examiner was appointed, and one of the provincial examiners for medical students for four years. The Schooleys are one of the oldest families in the peninsula. The grandfather of the doctor came into Canada from New Jersey with three brothers in 1776.
