Microfilm copy of an article about Mike Smrek of Welland being drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers, from the June 19, 1985 edition of the Welland Tribune.

He was then traded to the Chicago Bulls the same night. Mike later won championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1987 and 1988 as the backup centre to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, making him the first Canadian to play on an NBA championship team. Mike was born in Welland and went to Eastdale Secondary School.
