Text reads:
Was born in Pelham Township on March 12, 1854, the son of Eli R. and Elizabeth Hyatt, and resides on the premises on which he was born. He was educated in the public school, and at the age of fourteen he entered the store of F. Swayze, Fenwick, as a clerk. He was later in the employ of Pattison & Diffin and A. O. Stringer. Since leaving the mercantile field Mr. Hyatt engaged in mixed farming and fruit growing until December of 1904, when he sold the farm, though retaining the homestead, where he still resides. He now represents the Waterloo, Anglo-American and Atlas Fire Insurance Companies, taking up the business formerly carried on by Crow & Arnold. Mr. Hyatt has been secretary-treasurer of the Pelham Agricultural Society for the past fifteen years, and the wonderful success the society has experienced is largely due to his untiring efforts in its behalf. Mr. Hyatt in 1888 was made secretary-treasurer and trustee of S. S. No. 3, a position he held until 1893. In 1895-6 he was elected deputy-reeve by acclamation, occupying also, of course, a position in the County Council. He served as reeve in 1897-8. He was president of the Township of Pelham Liberal Association for several years and is now president of the county association.
