The Burgars came from Hoboken, N. J., about 1790, and purchased property in Thorold Township along the river, and it was here that his father, George R. E. Burgar, was born. He was made Town Treasurer in 1893. His appointment as Police Magistrate came last June. In religion Mr. Burgar is a Presbyterian, having been an elder in the Welland church for 25 years. He took an active interest in the Sunday School, and was for a long time its superintendent.
