Text reads:

Of Crowland, was born on the 10th of February, 1839, in Hanover, Germany, and came to Canada 53 years ago, when in his 15th year. He was a son of William Kottmeier, and the family lived first in North Pelham, but 26 years ago H. H. Kottmeier bought the old Leonard Mathews farm and moved to Crowland. He afterwards added to this by buying the Darby farm. He served four years in the Township Council and for nine years was trustee of S.S. No. 6. He is a member of the Lutheran church and in politics is a Conservative. Mr. Kottmeier is a splendid representative of the class of German settlers that have done so much for the industrial advancement of this country.
