Text reads:

George Welstead was born in the County of Frontenac on Christmas Day, 1859, being one of twins. His father was an officer in the British army on active service in East India, coming to Canada about 50 years ago. Later he moved to Lincoln county. The subject of this sketch when a young man served on the police force in St. Catharines, but 15 years ago moved to Stamford, where he took up farming. For eight years he served as school trustee and for the past eight years has been a member of Stamford Township council. He is an agitator for good roads.
