Text reads:

J. W. Vanalstine was born in Crowland Township in 1840 and has lived in that township ever since. Besides being one of the oldest residents he is naturally known to every one in the municipality and many also about the county. He was educated in the Public School, Belvadier Academy and the Niagara Falls Grammar School. He has many times been a member of the municipal council and for four years was Reeve of Crowland, three times being elected by acclamation. For two years, under the old method of forming county councils, he was a member of that body. In politics he is a Conservative.
