Text reads:

David Ross was born near Edinburgh, Scotland, and came to this country in 1862, when a boy of thirteen. He engaged in various mercantile pursuits, and in 1875 went into business in Thorold, in partnership with William Bull. The firm afterwards opened branches in Merritton, Welland and Port Colborne. Mr. Ross is now head of The Ross Company, Welland, who have the largest dry goods house in the County. The subject of this sketch has served in many municipal positions of honor. For several years he was a member of the town council, as councillor, reeve and mayor. He has also served in the County Council and for several years on the Public School Board. He is an active member of the fire department, and is also President of the County Agricultural Society.
