John H. Atwood was born at Maplewood on the Niagara, in the Township of Willoughby, County of Welland, on the 4th day of April, 1866. He received his education at the Black Creek school and in the city of Buffalo. On October 1st, 1890, he started in the grocery business in the village of Bridgeburg, later on adding undertaking and furniture. By careful management and strict attention to business, he has been very successful, and at the present time he has one of the largest places of business in the village, occupying about 4.500 square feet of floor.
In January, 1899, he was elected Reeve of the Village of Bridgeburg, which office he held four consecutive years. In January last he was elected by acclamation County Commissioner for District No. 2, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Colonel Cruikshank. He is the youngest member of that body. He is president of the Bridgeburg Brass Band, a prominent member of several fraternal societies, and takes an active part in all public matters.
