L. Clark Raymond was born in Welland on October 7, 1867. He received his education at the Welland High School, and studied law with his father, the late L. D. Raymond. In 1886 he was called to the bar, and for some years he has been the senior member of the firm of Raymond & Cohoe. He has always taken an active interest in the militia, and in 1897 was appointed Colonel of the 44th Batt. Two years later he retired from the command of the regiment and is now on the militia reserve of officers. For years he has been one of the leading Conservatives of the county, holding the position of Secretary and afterwards President of the County Liberal-Conservative Association. He has also been urged to accept the party nomination in this county. He is one of the best-known young men in the county and has a host of friends.
