"Steam Engine" mural
Description
Colour photograph of the mural "Steam Engine" by Ron Baird, c. 1991.
Painted in 1988 by Ron Baird of Stouffville, ON, at 90 Division Street (Bell Canada building facing Cross Street), 21' X 22'.
The steam engine was used to help build the old canals. The sky is patterned in hexagons which mirror the shape of the paving stones in the streetscape and create an image of honeycomb, with man as the bee, building not wax cells but canal walls.
Picture of mural and information from the book "A Festival of Canadian Art: Welland's Giant Outdoor Murals" by Jerry Gibb.
