Description

Colour photograph of the mural "Paint By Number Mural" by over 800 people, c. 1991.

Painted in 1989 by over 800 people, at 300 Lincoln Street East (Lincoln Centre), 130' X 9'.

837 adults and children participated in the painting project. The mural was constructed on 32 plywood panels. Each one was painted at ground level and installed later at the front of the plaza. It was the idea of Wayne Hughes, creative director of 'Back to Basics,' a Welland marketing company. It shows the diverse ethnic background of Welland, represented by 10 flowers which symbolize the people from 13 cultures that played a major role in Welland's development.

The mural is no longer located in the plaza, and its current location or circumstance is undetermined.

Picture of mural and information from the book "A Festival of Canadian Art: Welland's Giant Outdoor Murals" by Jerry Gibb.
