Description:Scanned copy of the proceedings of the council of Welland County for 1856, the first year of the County. Dr. John Frazer was County Warden, with the following councillors: James Cummings, Daniel Near, John Pew, John Grant, Leonard M. Mathews, Gilbert McMicken, Arthur Jonston, James M. Coppin, William A. Rooth, Daniel Lamberton, William Wright, and Jacob Misener. Dexter D'Everardo was clerk. It contains five sessions: August 18, September 15, December 1, December 29, and January 12, 1857. The meetings were held at the Welland County Courthouse. Welland County was the precursor to today's Niagara Regional government (Niagara was composed of Lincoln County and Welland County from 1856-1969).
