It provided convenient borrowing facilities to the northwestern area of the city. The collection began with 500 children’s books and approximately 15,000 books. Description:Eight colour photographs of library patrons and staff using the Welland Public Library Bookmobile, c. 1973. The older gentleman in the blue sweater is Mr. Little, and the lady in the brown coat is Mrs. Cordon. The Welland Public Library Bookmobile was launched in July of 1973. It stopped at local seniors homes, day cares, schools, parks and churches. It carried approximately 2,000 books and circulated about 500 books per week. A lifeline for many Wellanders, both children and seniors alike, it continued until 1995. [show more]
