On page 49 of "The History and Development of Welland High and Vocational School 1854-1979" it reads:
"In April 1943, Mr. Johnson was offered a position with the Department of Education. At a special meeting, the Board paid tribute to him as an educator, a good organizer, careful administrator, and a man of high ideals and Christian character who among his teachers was held in high esteem... During his principalship Mr. Johnson had introduced many innovations and changes. Among these were an improved system of school records with individual cards, lockers for every student which permitted the introduction of the rotary system, a school library and the appointment of a librarian as well as a salary schedule for teachers. In addition Mr. Johnson had played a large part in the erection of the Vocational School." [show more]

"Mr. Snelling had attended Welland High as a boy and had been of the teaching staff of the school since 1932... In 1964, Mr. H. A. Snelling resigned his position as principal of Welland High & Vocational School. Both students and staff regretted his departure for he had been an approachable, patient, and kind principal... During his principalship he introduced shop options in the general and academic course, an alternative to French and Latin. He also introduced typing into the grade nine timetable in the early fifties. Both innovations grew in scope and were adopted by many other high schools in Ontario." [show more]
