On pages 49 and 62 of "The History and Development of Welland High and Vocational School 1854-1979" it reads:

"Mr. Snelling had attended Welland High as a boy and had been of the teaching staff of the school since 1932... In 1964, Mr. H. A. Snelling resigned his position as principal of Welland High & Vocational School. Both students and staff regretted his departure for he had been an approachable, patient, and kind principal... During his principalship he introduced shop options in the general and academic course, an alternative to French and Latin. He also introduced typing into the grade nine timetable in the early fifties. Both innovations grew in scope and were adopted by many other high schools in Ontario."
