Description:Black and white photograph of Douglas A. Silcox, principal of Welland High and Vocational School between 1969-1975, photo undated.
On page 73 of "The History and Development of Welland High and Vocational School 1854-1979" it reads:
"During his principalship the credit system was introduced in Ontario by the Department of Education. This type of system abolished formal grade numbers and allows the student a greater variety in the choice of subjects. This type of system also creates an individual time table for each student. Different reactions have been voiced concerning the effectiveness of a credit system but the majority of students have commented in its favour. The seem to enjoy being able to meet a greater number of students as they spend each period with a different group. With the instituting of the credit system, Welland High has proven flexible as it keeps pace with changing trends in education." [show more]
