Title

Sir Cedric Hardwicke and wife Helena Pickard visit Welland manufacturers, c. 1944

Subject

Sir Cedric Hardwicke; Helena Pickard

Description

Two black and white photographs of Sir Cedric Hardwicke and wife Helena Pickard visiting Welland manufacturers, c. 1944.

The first photograph has 'Page Hersey' written on the back, meaning he is likely pictured in front of the Page Hersey building. Helena Pickard is on the left, Welland mayor T.H. Lewis is next to her, then Sir Cedric Hardwicke, and an unidentified man on the right.

The second photograph may be inside Atlas Steels, as a man on the far right of the photo has a shirt saying 'Atlas,' but there is no identifying information written on the back of the photo.

T.H. Lewis was mayor between 1940-1945, so the context of the photos are likely that the British actor and his actress wife were visiting Canadian manufacturers as a morale booster during World War II. Unfortunately the photos are not dated so the accompanying articles in the Welland Tribune can't be located.
