T.N. Morrison, from whose personal collection this photo comes from, can be seen on the left looking backwards.
Also included in the files is a microfilm copy of the next days article from the March 22, 1958 edition of the Welland Tribune. It discusses Diefenbaker's visit and his remarks about Welland mayor Armour McCrae.
The 1958 federal election took place on March 31, 1958, and transformed Diefenbaker's minority government into the largest majority in Canadian history, winning 208 seats to the Liberals 48. However, in Niagara only Lincoln voted for the PC's, as Welland and Niagara Falls voted in the Liberal candidates. [show more]
