The Northwest Branch on South Pelham Road opened in April of 1972. It provided convenient borrowing facilities to the northwestern area of the city. The collection began with 500 children’s books and approximately 15,000 books. The branch was eventually closed in 2009. [show more]

The Welland Public Library Bookmobile was launched in July of 1973. It stopped at local seniors homes, day cares, schools, parks and churches. It carried approximately 2,000 books and circulated about 500 books per week. A lifeline for many Wellanders, both children and seniors alike, it continued until 1995. [show more]

Description: A three story addition to the rear of the library increased space for the Reference and Audio-Visual Department. The main floor Reference Room had 34 study carrels and a complete Reference Collection. The new audio-visual area had a small viewing room and listening carrells as well as space for films and record albums. A third floor provided office and administration work space, staff facilities and a large book storage area while the lower level expanded the children's area. Work began with a sod turning on October 1, 1974 and opened on November 15, 1975. [show more]
