Description:Black and white photographic print showing volunteers for the fight against Fenian raiders posing in front of the locomotive Milwaukee from the Welland Railway Company. The locomotive transported volunteers from St. Catharines to Port Colborne. The photo was taken on June 1, 1866 in Welland, and is reproduced here in a Welland Tribune article, c. 1950. The captioned text reads: "This engine of the Buffalo, Brantford and Goderich Railway, which has been swallowed up in the Canadian National Railway system but is this year celebrating its 100th anniversary, was used to convey volunteers from St. Catharines to Port Colborne at the time of the Fenian Raids. The picture, taken in Welland on June 1, 1866, is now in the public archives of Canada. Engines, similar to the one in the photograph, will be a part of the CNR Museum Train which will be in Welland, Oct. 19, 20 and 21." [show more]
